Disney's Animated Soundtrack 'Encanto' returns to #1 on the United World Album Chart for a 6th non-consecutive week, scoring another 132.000 equivalent sales units and 1.576.000 so far! It's the longest Run at #1 for an album since Michael Bublé's 'Christmas' which ruled for 7 weeks till the first week in January, 2020!
Released by Walt Disney Records on November 19, 2021, the album contains 8 original songs, all written by the hugely talented Lin-Manuel Miranda and produced by Mike Elizondo. The songs were recorded by various singers, and released in 44 languages of the world, apart from English and Spanish. Miranda and his team visited Colombia, where Encanto is set, to study the country's music. The lyrical themes are about individuality, self-worth, transgenerational trauma and familial love.
'Encanto' is a huge commercial success, and topped the Billboard 200 chart for 9 whole weeks. 'Encanto' became the first Disney animated film to generate multiple top-10 Hot 100 entries with all of its original songs entering the US Billboard Hot 100. "We Don't Talk About Bruno" is the most successful track on the album, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for 5 consecutive weeks and marking the 1st-ever song from a Disney film to top the chart for so many weeks! The album also topped the weekly charts in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK, and reached the top 10 in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain & Switzerland.
'Encanto' was met with critical acclaim and received various accolades for its vibrant Latin music rhythms and Miranda's musicianship. The album won the Annie Award for outstanding music in a feature film, and received two nominations at the 94th Academy Awards with the film score up for Best Original Score, and the track "Dos Oruguitas" by Sebastián Yatra up for Best Original Song!
