'Fantom', the ninth studio album by Japanese/American Singer and
Songwriter Hikaru Utada, rockets to the top of this week's Global Album
Chart after selling 265,000 copies in its initial week, 252,581 of these
in Japan alone, according to Oricon. 17 years ago, in 1999, Utada's
second album 'First Love' sold nearly eight million copies in Japan and
became the best selling Japanese-language album of all time by far!
Hikaru also held the record for the highest first-week sales of an album
globally in 2001 when her third album 'Distance' debuted with sales of
3,002,720, according to Oricon. For over fourteen years this record
remained undefeated, till Adele's '25' exploded in November 2015,
selling 5,706,000 units the first week.

Another important J-pop act debuts at No.2 this week. The 19-member boy
group Exile's sixth best-of compilation 'Extreme Best' sold 178,401
copies in its debut week.

Justin Vernon and his band Bon Iver's third Album, '22, A Million'
debuts at no.3 globally with overall sales of 115,000, 57,900 of it in
the United States, another 19,000 in United Kingdom, around 8,000 in
Germany, 7,000 in Canada and 5,300 in Australia.

Only one album from last week's Top 10 reappears on the current tally.
It's the former no.1 album 'Illuminate' by Shawn Mendes, which slips to
no.9 after a 78% sales decline to 47,000.
