BTS' 'Map Of The Soul: 7' was the World's Best-selling Album of 2020!

BTS's 'Map Of The Soul: 7' was the best-selling Album of 2020, and topped the United World Year End Chart with an incredible 6,519,000 equivalent sales! 'Map of the Soul: 7', was released on February 21, 2020 and went to #1 in over 20 countries, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Lithuania, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland, the US and the United Kingdom, with BTS becoming the first Asian group to go to #1 in ALL top five music markets in the world ie. the US, the UK, Japan, Germany, and France! 'Map of the Soul: 7' debuted atop the US Billboard 200 with 422,000 album-equivalent units, including 347,000 pure album sales, becoming BTS's 4th No. 1 album with the highest first-week figures of BTS's albums in the US so far! It also marked the biggest first week sales for an album in 2020 until The Weeknd's 'After Hours' was released on March 20. The album's lead single, "On", debuted at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 with 86,000 downloads and 18.3 million U.S. streams, marking BTS' biggest sales week for a song at the time, and their highest charting single and 1st top five hit. In November 2020, 'Map of the Soul: 7' was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for 1 million album-equivalent units, their 2nd album to be awarded platinum following 'Love Yourself: Answer'! At the end of 2020, Billboard revealed that 'Map of the Soul: 7' ranked at #2 on the year-end list of top-selling albums in the US, according to MRC Data, with 674,009 copies sold, behind Taylor Swift's 'folklore', which sold over 1 million copies. 'Map of the Soul: 7' was the No. 1 physical album of the year in America, with 646,000 hard copies sold!

 

In Japan, the album became the group's 5th number one, selling over 370,000 copies in its release week, and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) in February 2020, for 250,000 shipments. In June, Oricon announced that 'Map of the Soul: 7' had topped the mid-year Album Chart with 429,000 copies sold, making BTS the first foreign artist in 36 years to do so since Michael Jackson with 'Thriller' and the first male artist in 3 years since #SMAP in 2017 with their greatest hits album 'SMAP 25 Years'.

 

#mapofthesoul7 was the top-selling album of 2020 and of All Time in Korea and in 2020, became the 1st quadruple Million Seller in Korean history! The album debuted atop the Gaon Album Chart, giving BTS their 13th number one, and selling over 2.65 million copies in its first six hours and a record-breaking 3.37 million copies in its first week, achieving the highest first week sales in Hanteo Chart history! In less than 9 days of the album's release, 'Map of the Soul: 7' sold 4.1 million copies in Korea, marking the highest sales achieved by an album in a month and over a single year in the Gaon Album Chart's history. It is the first Korean album to sell more than 4 million copies since Gaon Chart's began, and became the first album certified as "Quadruple Million" by Gaon since their certifications began in 2018. It topped Gaon's year end album chart with a cumulative 4,376,975 copies sold, marking the 5th consecutive year that BTS had the best-selling album in their home country. BTS became the best-selling artist in South Korea of all time, having sold 20.32 million albums cumulatively.

 

In the UK, the album debuted atop the Official Albums Chart giving the group their 2nd consecutive number one, selling 36,000 units, with 32,000 pure sales. The album was certified Silver in 2020 by the British Phonographic Industry for over 60,000 units. The album debuted atop the German Albums Chart, making BTS the first Asian group to top the chart! It debuted atop the Irish Albums Chart, making BTS the 1st Korean artist to score a number one in that country. 'MOTS7' debuted at #1 on Australia's ARIA Albums Chart becoming BTS' 5th Top 10 entry, and their 2nd consecutive number one following 'Map of the Soul: Persona'. In France, the album debuted at No.1 on the SNEP Albums Chart, selling 23,502 equivalent units, making the group's 1st number one in that country. In Canada, the album debuted at #1 with 23,000 album-equivalent units, becoming the group's 3rd chart-topping album following 'Love Yourself: Answer' and 'Map of the Soul: Persona'.

Adele's '30" rebounds to #1 for a 3rd week on the United World Chart after selling 411.000 equivalent album units in its 4th week equivalent units and a total of 3,034,000 so far! '30' is Adele's 4th studio album and was released on November 19, 2021 by Melted Stone and Columbia Records. The album is about Adele's divorce, motherhood, and the scrutiny of fame, discussing themes of heartache, acceptance, and hope. Adele wrote '30' between 2018 and 2021 with producers Greg Kurstin, Max Martin and Shellback, who also worked on her previous album, '25', (2015), along with new collaborators Ludwig Göransson, and Inflo of the English band Sault. The album is Adele's most creative work sonically. Upon release, 30 was met with widespread critical acclaim for its cinematic instrumentation, vocal performances, and honest themes, and appeared on 2021 year-end best-albums lists of various publications. Powered by its title track, "Easy On Me", '30' reached number one in 35 countries, including the UK where it opened with the highest first-week sales for an album by a female artist since Adele's own '25', becoming the country's best-selling album of the 2020s decade. Its Adele's 3rd Billboard 200 number-one album and the best-selling album of 2021 in the US!


Korean Superstar Group ATEEZ' new 'Zero: Fever Epilogue' lands at #2 on the United World Chart after selling 204.000 equivalent album units in its 1st week! It's this week's highest new-entry!


Juice Wrld's amazing 'Fighting Demons' ft. Eminem, Justin Bieber, Polo G, BTS' Suga & Trippie Red lands at #3 with 190,000 equivalent album sales while Ed Sheeran's 'Equals" holds at 4 after selling another 145,000 equivalent units and 1,410,000 so far, after debuting at #3!

Mariah Carey's Xmas classic 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' rockets to no.1 on the United World Chart for the 4th year in a row, topping the chart for a 7th non-consecutive week, scoring another 289,000 total points of which 211,000 are from streaming, 33,000 from sales and 45,000 from airplay. "All I Want for Christmas Is You" was released on October 29, 1994 as the lead single from Mariah's 4th studio album and 1st holiday album, 'Merry Christmas' (1994). Written and produced by Carey, and Walter Afanasieff, the song quickly became a huge global success, topping the charts in 26 countries. In 2019, it topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for the first time, 25 years after its original release, breaking several records, including the longest trip to #1. The following year, it also topped the charts in the United Kingdom for the first time, spending a record 69 weeks in the UK Top 40 before reaching #1! "All I Want for Christmas Is You" has sold 16 Million units globally, and is the best-selling holiday song by a female artist, and one of the best-selling singles in music history. The song is certified Diamond by RIAA for sales of 10 million copies in the US, becoming the 1st and only holiday song to reach the Milestone!


Adele's 'Easy On Me' dips 1-2 after 9 weeks atop the United World Chart scoring another 287,000 points while The Kid LAROI. and Justin Bieber's "Stay" dips 2-3, scoring another 264,000 points, and lifts 3-2 on the Year End chart with a total of 8,725,000 points!


Elton John and Dua Lipa's "Cold heart (Pnau Remix)" holds at #4 in its 19th week on the United World Chart, scoring another 236,000 points!


Wham!'s "Last Christmas" lifts 9-5 on the United World chart with 223,000 points while 17 year old singer/songwriter Gayle's 'ABCDEFU" dips 5-6 in its 5th week on the United World Chart.

Adele's "Easy On Me" scores a 9th consecutive week at #1 on the United World Chart, earning another 308,000 points with 161,000 points from streaming, 111,000 from global airplay and 36,000 from global sales!
Released on October 15, via Columbia Records as the lead single from her record-breaking 4th studio album '30', "Easy on Me" is the Superstar's first track in nearly 5 years! The highest debut on the United World Chart Top 40 comes from Japanese singer and lyricist Aimer. Her new song "Zankyosanka" scores massive digital sales of 93,000 and over 9 million streams in its 1st week according to Oricon, debuting at #24 globally.
