It's a little sensation, 13 years after the last studio album 'October Road', the 67 year-old legendary American singer / songwriter James Taylor released his 17th album and lands the first global number one in his long career! 'Before This World' opens at the summit with 123.000 sales, 95.900 of it in the USA alone, another 13.500 in United Kingdom. Five-time Grammy Award winner James Taylor began his career in 1970 with the song 'Fire And Ice' (no.9 in the week 49, 1970) and landed the biggest hit some months later with a cover of the Carole King classic 'You've Got A Friend' (no.4 in the week 31, 1971). For this song he won a Grammy Award for the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 1971. His 'Greatest Hits' compilation from 1976 peaked at no.15 in the US Billboard Charts. However it became a steady seller for many years and sold more than 11 million copies to date in this country alone. Back to this week's hitlist: shy behind James Taylor follows last week's no.1 album, 'Drones' by Muse with 122.000 sales, a 66% decline compared to the initial week. Behind at no.3 lands the second highest debut of the week, 'The Original High' by American singer and stage actor Adam Lambert. It's his third album and starts with 69.000 sales globally, 41.800 of it in the USA, another 9.500 in United Kingdom and 4.800 in Canada. Ed Sheeran's six-million seller 'X' is now exactly one year on the tally and makes an impressive jump back from no.11 to no.5 with another 59.000 sales. On the year-to-date chart 'X' ranks still at no.2 with 2.565.000 sales, behind Taylor Swift's '1989' with 2.944.000 sales. 'See You Again' by Wiz Khalifa feat. Charlie Puth is the World's Best Single for a ninth non-consecutive week. Taylor Swift feat. Kendrick Lamar's 'Bad Blood' remains at no.2 for a third consecutive week. The Felix Jaehn Remix of Omi's 'Cheerleader' is back at no.3. Felix Jaehn debuts at no.36 with a dance cover of Jasmine Thompson's 'Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better)' from 2013, which itself is a cover of the Chaka Khan classic from 1983. The song reigns atop the official Singles chart in Germany for several weeks. Ed Sheeran's six-million seller 'X' generates another single success, 'Photograph' at no.29 this week. Outside the Top 40 is Silento's 'Watch Me' at no.41, Galantis' 'Runaway (U&I)' at no.42, Feder's 'Goodbye' at no.52 and Deorro X Chris Brown's 'Five More Hours' at no.54.
British rock act Muse have the World's no.1 Album this week with their new effort 'Drones', and sales of 359.000, more than twice as much as 'Genic' by J-pop star Namie Amuro, at no.2. Genic sold 160.000 copies according to Oricon. 'Drones' sold 79.400 copies in the US, 78.400 in France nd 71.300 copies in the UK. 'Drones' is already Muse's fourth global no.1 album. Their former effort, 'The 2nd Law', catapulted atop the hitlist with 475.000 copies in week 42 of 2012. 'The Resistance' debuted with sales of 479.000 in week 39, 2009, and 'Black Holes & Revelations' sold 219.000 units in week 29, 2006. Iceland's Of Monsters & Men are at no.3 this week with their second album 'Beneath My Skin' which sold 101.000 copies. Driven by the successful single 'Little Talks', Of Monsters & Men's debut album 'My Head Is An Animal', released in 2012, sold nearly 2 million copies globally to date.
'Kendji' by Kendji Girac sold 11.000 copies last week and reaches a total of 950.000 so far. 'Rebel Heart' by Madonna sold 8.000 units last week, and 746.000 so far, 'To Pimp A Butterfly' by Kendrick Lamar sold 15.000 units last week and has a total of 902.000 copies to date and 'Sonic Highways' by the Foo Fighters sold 1.301.000 copies so far. The 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' soundtrack has sold a toral of 2.103.000 copies to date, and 'Chaos And The Calm' by James Bay is at 455.000.
'See You Again' by Wiz Khalifa feat. Charlie Puth reigns the Global Track Chart an eighth non-consecutive week and gets another 380.000 points, a 6% decrease compared to the previous week and a total of 4.771.000 points so far. The song climbs at no.6 on the year-to-date chart, which is led by Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars' 'Uptown Funk' (surely still the biggest hit by the end of this year). On the ALL TIME CHART 'Uptown Funk' climbs at no.17 with 11.823.000 points, so now it's the fifth most successful song of the 21st century, behind Adele's 'Rolling In The Deep' (11.969.000 points), Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' (12.296.000 points), Black Eyed Peas' 'I Gotta Feeling' (13.044.000 points), and Pharrell Williams' 'Happy' (14.844.000 points). On this week's hitlist 'Uptown Funk' slides one slot at no.7 with 188.000 points. No movement in the top five, behind 'See You Again', holds Taylor Swift's 'Bad Blood' at no.2 with 296.000 points, Jason Derulo's 'Want To Want Me' remains at no.3 with 287.000 points, Omi's 'Cheerleader' is still at no.4 with 270.000 points and Major Lazer's 'Lean On' rounds out the top five with 223.000 points. Outside our weekly Top 40 waiting among other Aimer's 'Brave Shine' at no.41, Eminem's 'Phenomenal' at no.47, Felix Jaehn feat. 'How Big How Blue How Beautiful', the magnificent new album by Florence & The Machine, missed the no.1 spot, despite healthy 273.000 initial sales. The set was overtaked on the Global Album Chart by Mr.Children's new effort 'Reflection (Drip)', which moved 355.000 units in its first week at retail, (according to Oricon). But in the english-speaking territories 'How Big' is the clear winner this week, the album opens atop the charts in the USA (127.900 sales), United Kingdom (66.800 sales), Canada (19.000 sales) and Australia (15.700 sales). Behind Mr.Children and Florence & The Machine returns 'Love Me Right', a re-package set of Exo's current album 'Exodus', at no.3 with 173.000 units. Taylor Swift's '1989' holds the no.4 spot in its 32nd week on the tally with another 66.000 sales, a total of huge 7.449.000 so far. Rounds out the top five is 'In Colour' by Jamie XX with 65.000 sales.
